The Building of Hope Mission Statement:
Our mission is to help people in our community who have fallen on tough times by providing them with beds, gently used furniture and household necessities, giving them a hand up and helping them find hope through their trials.
About:
The Building of Hope ministry started in the summer of 2017 and our mission is to show the love of Christ by providing gently used furniture and basic household necessities. We provide people in our community who have fallen on hard times with a hand up, not a hand out. We have partnered with Laskey’s furniture in Sharon to help us fill the need of providing beds. The purchase of beds is how the majority of our grant funding is used.
Our ministry provides beds and basic household items to people in need in our community. We help the working poor, single moms and dads, veterans, elderly and the physically and mentally disabled on fixed incomes and more. Almost all of the beds are purchased new and the living room furniture is gently used/donated. We deliver these items to the individuals or families. In addition to beds and gently used/donated household furniture, each family served receives a Basket of Hope. This is a laundry basket filled with toiletries, cleaning supplies, other household necessities, a Daily Bread devotional, and an invitation to our church. In total, since our inception in 2017, we’ve served 2317 families by providing them with 2664 beds and 1542 pieces of living room furniture/essentials.
With our limited budget we rely on local grants and donations to purchase new mattresses, box springs and frames, bed sheets, blankets, and Basket of Hope items. These funds are also used to pay rent and utilities at our storage space. Most of the beds are bought new and we average spending $800-$1000 per week. The increased number of families needing beds, bedding, furniture and the expenses associated with providing these items exceeds our annual funding.
This ministry helps those in our community who have fallen on tough times, providing them with basic furniture and household items at no cost.
